Stanton Newman, MD | Chairman
Professor Newman is currently Dean of the School of Health and Community Sciences at City University London and he leads the Brain and Cardiac Surgery group at University College London that has an international reputation for its work on the impact of cardiac surgery on the brain and strategies to reduce neuropsychological complications. Also, Dr. Newman heads the interdisciplinary Centre for Behavioral & Social Sciences in Medicine. He has published widely in a range of medical and psychology journals and co-authored ten books including “The Brain and Cardiac Surgery: Causes of Neurological Complications and Their Prevention.”
Robert Coleman, PhD, DSc
Dr. Coleman is an international expert in receptor pharmacology and a co-discoverer of the prostanoid EP4 receptor. Recently he was the CSO and co-founder of Pharmagene, and earlier he led the pharmacology research team at Glaxo that discovered the long-acting brochodilator, salmeterol (Serevent). Dr. Coleman is the past Chair of the IUPHAR working parties on leukotriene receptors and prostanoid receptors, and is known for introducing the internationally recognized classification of both receptor families. He has authored more than 70 publications and 6 published patent families in drug discovery.
Richard Lipton, MD
Dr. Lipton is Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology, and Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also is the Director of the Montefiore Headache Center. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Lipton is a Past President of the American Headache Society, an Associate Editor of Cephalalgia and on the editorial boards of several journals, including Neurology. He chaired the Subcommittee on Migraine Classification that developed the current International Classification of Headache Disorders, Second Edition (ICHD-2). He has published more than 450 original articles and reviews, as well as 8 books. He is a 3-time recipient of the H.G. Wolff Award for excellence in headache research from the American Headache Society and is a recipient of the Medical Book Award from the British Medical Association. He is a co-editor of several editions of Wolff’s Headache and Other Head Pain.
Jes Olesen, MD
Dr. Olesen is Professor of Neurology at University of Copenhagen, and founder and chief of the Danish Headache Center at the Department of Neurology, Glostrup University Hospital. He is one of the most recognized leading headache researchers in the world and instrumental in developing the standards of Headache Classification. He led the first trials for triptans, NOS inhibitors and CGRP antagonists in migraine. Professor Olesen chairs a large research group with major projects in most areas of headache research including the role of signaling molecules in migraine. Professor Olesen has received many national and international prizes including the H.G. Wolff Award and honorary doctorates from major universities. He has held leadership positions in numerous scientific societies, including President of International Headache Society (1993-1995), European Federation of Neurological Societies( 1995-2001) and European Brain Council (2000) and he is an honorary member of the Austrian-, French- and British Neurological Societies, as well as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Has authored or co-authored more than 500 papers and book chapters, and has edited or written more than 30 books, most recently The Classification and Diagnosis of Headache Disorders.
